Governor “Deeply Troubled” By Flock Cameras

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Spencer Cox says he is “deeply troubled” by concerns surrounding the use of Flock license plate-reading cameras in Utah. Cox made the comments during his monthly news conference yesterday after Utah Civic Compact released data showing 10 cameras in Weber County had reportedly been searched more than five-million times since 2022, often by out-of-state law enforcement agencies. Cox is ordering the Utah Privacy Governing Board and Utah Privacy Commission to review rules and regulations governing the cameras. He says his main concern is making sure the technology is not being abused.
