(Salt Lake City, UT) — The president of the Quorum of the Twelve is issuing a statement on the passing of Russell M. Nelson. The leader of the LDS Church died at age 101. The most senior apostle is now Dallin H. Oaks. In his statement, Oaks said “Millions of us are mourning the passing of our beloved Prophet and President,” going on to call Nelson “a dear friend and a cherished leader.” Oaks said his “timeless teachings” continue to guide followers, especially in the wake of the tragedy this weekend in Michigan. Oaks is likely to become the new leader of the LDS Church.
