(Washington, DC) — Utah’s congressional delegation is renewing a request to open a new passport office in Salt Lake City. The state’s congressmen and senators sent a letter to the U.S. Secretary of State yesterday outlining problems with passport processing in Utah. They say their offices have been swamped by emergency processing requests due to delays and extended processing times. In-person appointments have to be made at offices outside the state because the State Department does not have a passport agency in Utah. The delegation said an office in Salt Lake City would provide significant relief not only to Utahns but to passport applicants in several other states.
