Chemical Fire in Salina

Reports of smoke led Salina City Fire and Police departments to a chemical fire June 26.

Salina City Police Chief, Eric Pratt, told KSVC that emergency personnel were sent to United Soil Science in Salina at around 4:30 on Monday. The first officer who arrived at the fire witnessed white smoke billowing out of a bay attached to the building. The officer requested hazmat when his lungs and throat became irritated from the strong chemical odor emanating from the building.

In order to preserve public safety, the area surrounding the building was evacuated while traffic was diverted away from the area. According to Pratt, “Deputies from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department and Troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol responded to the area and assisted with evacuations and traffic control.”

The fire was put out safely. No cause for the fire has been identified but the blaze remains under investigation.
