(Salt Lake City, UT) — Senator Orrin Hatch and Representative Jason Chaffetz are sponsoring a bill to settle Colorado River water rights issues between Utah and the Navajo Nation. It calls for the federal government and Utah to provide more than 200-million dollars for Navajo water projects in exchange for limiting legal liability for the feds and the state. The tribe gets more than 81-thousand acre-feet of unused river water a year through the deal.
