2 Inches of Rain Causes Flooding in Kanab

KANAB, Utah (AP)-Sunday, literally and figuratively, the floodgates opened upon the West in many places that have been dry for months.

While Tucson, Ariz. and Phoenix were among the prominent locations to be deluged, Kanab also had its fair share, with roughly two inches of rain falling Sunday evening.

Per FOX 13 in Salt Lake City and the National Weather Service’s Salt Lake City bureau, a large thunderstorm moved through southwestern Kane County, leaving significant rain in its wake.

The resultant flooding caused local authorities to close U.S. Highway 89 in both directions as well.

Throughout the evening, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office also had volunteers laboring to fill sandbags.

Monday morning, the efforts ensued. NWS Salt Lake City also reports the potential for flash flooding in central and Southern Utah exists through Monday, especially in slot canyons, dry washes and burns cars.
