2 Dead After Plane Crash in Wayne County

Two people are dead after a single engine aircraft crashed in the Grover area near Miner’s Mountain Road in Wayne County Friday.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area after 11 AM Friday and according to a news release there appeared to be two occupants and both were deceased.

The Sheriff’s Office found a large debris field and fire present in the area.

Witnesses stated the aircraft disappeared from their view and they subsequently heard an explosion and saw smoke.

The deceased were not identified and there remains will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation.

The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
