SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah prosecutor has announced his bid for Salt Lake County district attorney.
The Deseret News reports prosecutor Nathan Evershed announced his campaign on Tuesday.
He says he aims to repair the office’s credibility and trust.
District Attorney Sim Gill has been criticized by his colleagues who say he is eroding public trust and responsible for prosecutors leaving the county.
The county’s Republican Party called for his resignation in October.
It is unknown whether Gill will seek re-election.
After Evershed’s announcement, Gill says he remains committed to public service and is currently focused on business in his office.
