Boys Basketball

3A State Championship Game

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Kayson Douglas posted 26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists on 8-10 from the field and the No. 1 Manti Templars clobbered No. 7 Juab 88-58 to win the 3A state championship Saturday at Southern Utah University. The Templars shot 59 percent (29-49) from the field and 85 percent (23-27) at the foul line in victory. Austin Park posted 16 points in the loss for the Wasps. Manti has now won seven state titles in boys basketball: 1966, 2003, 2008, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2023.

3rd-4th Place Game

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Cache Cooper’s 13 points and 4 rebounds led the way and the No. 3 Grantsville Cowboys dismantled No. 6 Summit Academy 58-39 Saturday to earn 3rd place at the 3A state tournament Saturday at Southern Utah University. Bryson Ottley’s 17 points led the Bears in defeat.

5th-6th Place Game

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Miles Barnett’s 22 points and 7 rebounds on 7-9 from the field led the way and the No. 2 Richfield Wildcats got past No. 5 Morgan 69-60 to earn 5th place at the 3A state tournament at Southern Utah University Saturday. The Wildcats shot 64 percent for the game (23-36) and 53 percent behind the arc in victory. Eli Bailey’s 20 points and 4 rebounds on 8-16 from the field led the Trojans in the loss.

2A State Championship Game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Brock Felder’s 32 points and 7 rebounds led the way and the No. 8 Parowan Rams edged No. 3 Kanab 56-53 in overtime Saturday to win the 2A state boys basketball championship at Salt Lake Community College. Kason Janes had 20 points in defeat for the Cowboys. The Rams have won two state boys basketball titles in school history: 2004 and 2023.

2A 3rd-4th Place Game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Ricky Patterson posted 32 points and the No. 4 American Heritage Patriots got past No. 7 Duchesne 70-64 in overtime to earn third place at the 2A state tournament Saturday at Salt Lake Community College. Cade Gines had 21 points for the Eagles in the loss.

2A 5th-6th Place Game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Austin Thomas netted 24 points and the No. 1 Enterprise Wolves placed fifth at the 2A state tournament with a 63-36 rout of No. 2 Millard at Salt Lake Community College Saturday. Hunter Rhodes had 14 points in defeat for the Eagles.

1A First Round @ Home Sites

MONTEZUMA CREEK, Utah-The No. 12 Whitehorse Raiders downed No. 21 Intermountain Christian 84-71 Saturday in the 1A first round of the boys basketball playoffs. The Raiders next face No. 5 Milford Wednesday at 11:30 am at Richfield High School in the 2nd round of the state playoffs.

OLJATO-MONUMENT VALLEY, Utah-Haygen Jameson had 26 points and the No. 17 Tintic Miners hammered No. 16 Monument Valley 80-56 in the first round of the 1A boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Doreon Chee’s 19 points led the Cougars in defeat. Tintic next faces No. 1 Panguitch Wednesday at 1:00 m in the 2nd round of the state playoffs at Richfield High School.

MONTICELLO, Utah-The No. 11 Monticello Buckaroos clobbered No. 22 Telos 74-41 Saturday in the first round of the 1A boys basketball playoffs. Monticello next faces No. 6 Valley Wednesday at 8:30 pm at Richfield High School in the 2nd round.

TROPIC, Utah-The No. 13 Bryce Valley Mustangs got past No. 20 Altamont 68-62 in the first round of the 1A boys basketball playoffs Saturday. The Mustangs next face No. 4 Tabiona Wednesday at 10:00 am in the 2nd round of the state playoffs at Richfield High School.

GREEN RIVER, Utah-The No. 15 Green River Pirates advanced to the 2nd round of the 1A state tournament by virtue of a forfeit by No. 18 Diamond Ranch in the first round of the state tournament Saturday. The Pirates next face No. 2 Manila Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Richfield High School.

PRICE, Utah-Jonathan Kessler’s 15 points led the way and the No. 10 Pinnacle Panthers hammered No. 23 Dugway 61-30 Saturday in the first round of the 1A state tournament. Hazen Bullcreek’s 12 points led the Mustangs in defeat. Pinnacle faces No. 7 Wendover Wednesday at 5:30 pm in the 2nd round at Richfield High School.

HILDALE, Utah-Jonny Timpson had 15 points and the No. 14 Water Canyon Wildcats pounded No. 19 Escalante 58-32 in the first round of the 1A state tournament Saturday. Kendal Gardner’s 19 points led the Moquis in the loss. Water Canyon next draws No. 3 Piute Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Richfield High School in the 2nd round of the 1A state tournament.

Girls Basketball

3A State Championship Game

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Elena Birkeland posted 20 points and 7 rebounds and Liv Jaffa contributed 20 points and 16 rebounds and the No. 5 Morgan Trojans upset No. 1 Grantsville 70-66 Saturday evening to to win the 3A state championship at the America First Event Center on the campus of Southern Utah University. The Trojans have won state championships in 1990, 2003, 2021 and 2023. Baylee Lowder’s 19 points and 9 rebounds led the Lady Cowboys in defeat.

3rd-4th Place Game

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Nicole Willardson posted 21 points and 6 rebounds and the No. 2 Richfield Wildcats earned third place in the 3A state tournament at Southern Utah University Saturday with a 47-43 win over No. 4 Carbon. Amiah Timothy’s 13 points on 5-8 from the field led the Dinos in the loss.

5th-6th Place Game

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Elyah Ocampo posted 13 points on 5-7 from the field and 3-3 from range and the No. 8 Judge Memorial Bulldogs downed No. 7 Canyon View 48-41 to secure 5th place in the 3A state tournament Saturday at Southern Utah University. Maylee Spencer’s 22 points and 5 rebounds on 9-16 from the field led the Falcons in the loss.

2A State Championship Game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Ashlyn Houston stepped up with 13 points and the No. 3 Kanab Lady Cowboys downed No. 1 Beaver 39-34 Saturday at Salt Lake Community College to win the 2A state championship. Danzee Bradshaw’s game-high 22 points led the Beavers in defeat. The Lady Cowboys have won state titles in successive seasons and have three state titles in girls basketball overall.

2A 3rd-4th Place Game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Hartlynn Richins’  22 points led the way and the No. 2 North Summit Braves edged No. 4 Draper APA 64-61 to place third at the 2A state tournament Saturday at Salt Lake Community College. Samantha Kartchner had 19 points in defeat for the Eagles.

2A 5th-6th Place Game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Brooklyn Hulet netted 14 points and the No. 6 Parowan Rams bested No. 5 North Sevier 54-47 to earn 5th place at the 2A state tournament Saturday at Salt Lake Community College. Trey Torgerson’s 16 points led the Wolves in the loss.

1A First Round @ Home Sites

MILFORD, Utah-Tayleah Spaulding netted 17 points and the No. 14 Milford Tigers pounded No. 19 Tintic 53-31 in the first round of the 1A state girls basketball playoffs. Mikenzie Brunson’s game-high 19 points led the Miners in defeat. The Tigers next face No. 3 Valley Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Sevier Valley Center in the 2nd round of the state tournament.

MONTEZUMA CREEK, Utah-Shayla Miller led the way with 15 points and the No. 13 Whitehorse Raiders pummeled No. 20 Pinnacle 74-25 Saturday to prevail in the first round of the 1A girls basketball playoffs. Persephone Jones had 8 points in the loss for the Panthers. The Raiders next face No. 4 Wayne Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Sevier Valley Center in the 2nd round of the state tournament.

GREEN RIVER, Utah-Abigail Erwin netted 27 points and the No. 15 Green River Pirates sank No. 18 Water Canyon 54-26 Saturday in the first round of the 1A girls basketball playoffs. Joann Barlow’s 12 points led the Wildcats in defeat. Green River next draws No. 2 Wendover Wednesday at 4:00 pm at the Sevier Valley Center in the 2nd round of the state tournament.

SALT LAKE CITY-The No. 16 Intermountain Christian Lions bested No. 17 Monticello 46-34 in the first round of the 1A girls basketball playoffs Saturday. The Lions next face No. 1 Rich Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the 2nd round of the state tournament at the Sevier Valley Center.
