Mary DeGraffenreid wins Heptathlon at BYU Saturday

PROVO, Utah-Saturday, Millard girls senior track and field star Mary DeGraffenreid won the girls 1A-3A heptathlon title during the BYU High School Multi Steeple event at Robison Track.

The Eagles’ standout posted 3717 points by successfully excelling in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200, long jump, javelin and 800 meters.

She was the only Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network school representative to compete in the smaller classifications at this meet. Stacia Baker of Evanston (Wyo.) placed second with 3657 points and Anelie Petersen of Maeser Prep placed third with 3429 points.

In the 4A-6A heptathlon competition, Sarena Mackley of Box Elder won the title with 4328 points. Sarah Spangenberg of Viewmont finished second with 3962 points and Eden Devries of Weber finished third with 3755 points.

For the boys, in the 1A-3A decathlon, Boyd Sorensen of Sugar-Salem (Idaho) won the title with 5548 points. Sorensen, a junior for the Diggers, competed in the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400, 110-hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500.

Blake Barnes of Milford placed second with 5375 points and Kai Barker of Evanston (Wyo.) placed third with 5208 points.

Saxton Unsworth of Kanab placed fifth with 4782 points and Hunter Alger of Richfield finished sixth with 4564 points.
