EUGENE, Ore.-Thursday, as women’s competition at the NCAA National Championship track & field meet at Hayward Field commenced, former Millard High School star Anna Camp had a successful evening.
In the national semifinals of the women’s 1500-meter run, Camp, a BYU senior, posted a time of 4:09.22. This is a BYU school record in the event.
This makes her the second qualifier for Saturday’s national final in this event. Her teammate, former Panguitch High School star multi-sport athlete Whittni Orton, competed in the event as well but placed 17th (4:14.99) and therefore did not qualify for Saturday’s national final in the 1500. Orton will compete in Saturday’s national championship 5000-meter run, however.
The top qualifier is Colorado senior Sage Hurta who posted a time of 4:08.88.

Camp also competed in the 800-meter run Thursday, but finished short of qualifying for Saturday’s national final in the event. Camp placed 10th in the 800 in a time of 2:03.95. Amber Tanner of Georgia is the women’s 800 top qualifier for Saturday’s final. The Bulldogs’ star senior posted a time of 2:01.82.
Later on Thursday evening, Weber State junior, Kate Sorensen, placed 20th in the 400-meter hurdles.

Sorensen, a former Gunnison Valley High School multi-sport star athlete, posted a time of 59.42 seconds. This ends her season as she did not qualify for Saturday’s 400-meter hurdles national final.
The top qualifier in the women’s 400-meter hurdles was USC star senior Anna Cockrell, the defending national champion in the event.
