Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham To Step Down After Bowl Game

SALT LAKE CITY-Friday afternoon, University of Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham announced his resignation from the Utes’ program following the Las Vegas Bowl December 31 against Nebraska at Allegiant Stadium.

In a statement, Whittingham declared the “time is right” for his resignation, calling it an “honor and a privilege” to lead the Utah program for the past 21 years.

Whittingham confirmed his gratitude for the relationships he forged with players through the years and to guide many talented young men who have worn the drum and feather during his tenure.

Whittingham concluded his remarks by thanking the Salt Lake community, the University of Utah and all of Ute Nation, as well as his wife and family for their support.

During his time as the Utes’ head coach, Whittingham has posted a record of 177-88 (.668), led the Utes into the now-defunct Pac-12 from the Mountain West Conference and ultimately the Big 12 where Utah is now as an athletic department.

Whittingham has also gone 11-6 (.647) in bowl games, leading the Utes to postseason play in 17 of his 21 seasons at the helm of the program.

Defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley will become the head coach after the bowl game.
