Utah Football Receives More Honors From The Big 12 Monday

IRVING, Texas-Monday, Utah football received a pair of weekly honors from the Big 12 Conference after the No. 17 Utes dismantled Cincinnati 45-14 Saturday evening at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Freshman punt returner Mana Carvalho was named as the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week and the Utes received the conference’s Defensive Line award of the week as well.

Carvalho, a former Kahuku High School star out of Laie, Hawai’i, returned three punts for 94 yards, including a 75-yard punt return for a score in the 3rd Quarter.

The Utes’ defensive line was led by graduate student defensive tackle Aliki Vihami as the native of Kahuku, Hawai’i broke up a career-high two passes against the Bearcats.

The Utes return to action November 15 at Baylor as the Big 12 season ensues for both squads.
