2-A South

SALINA, Utah-Kason Janes returned an interception 78 yards for a score and hauled in two scoring receptions, of 49 and 25 yards, as the Kanab Cowboys spoiled North Sevier’s homecoming by outlasting a spirited Wolves second-half comeback, 28-23 Friday in 2-A South football action.

Astoundingly, Janes has five receptions on the season, each of which have gone for scoring receptions for the 6-0 (3-0 in 2-A South play) Cowboys.

Janes’ heroics were one of the twists and turns in this game which saw each team score a safety. North Sevier started scoring when a Kanab snap on a punt sailed over punter Mason (Bradley) Haycock’s head for a 2-0 Wolves lead.

Kanab then blocked a punt, setting up a 20-yard scoring run by Cowboys signal-caller Derek Houston although the PAT was blocked, making it 6-2 Kanab.

Janes then added his 78-yard interception return for a score and 25-yard scoring reception to make it 20-2. Parker Fraklin then sacked North Sevier signal-caller Kannin Boswell (2 of 10, 23 yards, TD/INT) for a safety, giving Kanab a 22-2 lead at the half.

However, behind the stellar play of star tailback Landan Gale (26 car, 277 yards, 2 TD’s; just under 10.7 yards per carry), the Wolves hung around. Boswell also contriubted with a 15-yard scoring reception to Cauy Williams (2 rec, 23 yards, TD) and an intereception defensively. Furthermore, Nathan Snyder (11 car, 30 yards, TD) added a 3-yard scoring run for the Wolves.

Nevertheless, North Sevier failed on an onside kick to conclude the game, allowing the Cowboys to run out the clock and hold on for the victory.

The Cowboys next host Milford September 25 at 7:00 pm and North Sevier travels across U.S. 50 to face the Millard Eagles September 25.
