3A State Playoffs Second Round
MT. PLEASANT, Utah-Russell Gibson netted 24 points and 5 rebounds on 7-13 from the field as the No. 18 ALA Eagles upset No. 2 North Sanpete 66-61 Saturday in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs.
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field in victory and next advance to the 3A state quarterfinals Thursday at 11:10 am to face the No. 7 seed Manti Templars at the Dee Events Center on the campus of Weber State University.
MANTI, Utah-Kayson Douglas posted 15 points and the No. 7 Manti Templars humbled No. 10 Juab 57-39 in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Justin Christensen’s 9 points led the Wasps in the loss.
OGDEN, Utah-Kekoa Beard stepped up with 21 points and the No. 6 Ben Lomond Scots got past No. 11 Ogden 48-43 Saturday in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs. Landen Smith had 17 points in defeat for the Tigers. Ben Lomond next faces Grantsville Thursday at 9:30 am in the state quarterfinals at the Dee Events Center on the campus of Weber State University.
GRANTSVILLE, Utah-The No. 3 Grantsville Cowboys overpowered No. 19 Judge 61-44 Saturday in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs.
DRAPER, Utah-Zuriel Marquez’s 23 points led the way and the No. 4 Juan Diego Soaring Eagle edged No. 13 South Summit 49-47 in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Gibson Walton posted 18 points for the Wildcats in the loss. Juan Diego next meets No. 5 Morgan Thursday at 2:30 pm in the state quarterfinals.
MORGAN, Utah-Alex Fisher posted 17 points and the No. 5 Morgan Trojans bested No. 12 Canyon View 57-48 Saturday in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs. Xavier Kadous had 17 points for the Falcons in the loss.
LAYTON, Utah-Tyrese Lacey stepped up with 17 points and the No. 1 Layton Christian Eagles pounded No. 17 Emery 84-53 in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Brett Rasmussen and Kysen Curtis had 11 points apiece in defeat for the Spartans. Layton Christian next meets No. 8 Summit Academy Thursday at 12:50 pm in the state quarterfinals at Weber State University.
BLUFFDALE, Utah-Tyler Jensen and Tyson Christensen had 18 points apiece and the No. 8 Summit Academy Bears overpowered No. 9 Union 58-42 Saturday in the second round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs. Raycen Olsen’s 12 points led the Cougars in the loss.
2A Boys State Playoffs Second Round
ENTERPRISE, Utah-Ryland Randall, Nash Palmer and Brady Crouch had 10 points apiece and the No. 3 Enterprise Wolves drilled the No. 14 North Sevier Wolves 57-39 in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Ethan Fielding had a game high 20 points in defeat for the North Sevier Wolves. Enterprise next meets No. 6 Parowan Thursday at 9:30 am in the 2A state quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center.
PAROWAN, Utah-Brock Felder netted 32 points and the No. 6 Parowan Rams gashed No. 11 APA West Valley 68-59 Saturday in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs. Kasey Norris had 28 points in the loss for the Eagles.
BLANDING, Utah-Jensen Grover led the way with 14 points and the No. 1 San Juan Broncos pummeled No. 16 Beaver 57-31 in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Conner Crum had 9 points in the loss for the Beavers. The Broncos next face No. 8 Rockwell Thursday at 12:50 pm in the state quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center.
EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah-Kolton Henderson netted 22 points and the No. 8 Rockwell Marshals edged No. 9 American Heritage 62-58 Saturday in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs. Ricky Patterson had 24 points in defeat for the Patriots.
FILLMORE, Utah-Hunter Rhodes stepped up with 23 points and 5 rebounds as No. 2 Millard pummeled No. 15 Waterford 70-37 Saturday in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs. Andrew Smaellie had 16 points in the loss for the Ravens. Millard next faces No. 10 Kanab Thursday at 11:10 am in the 2A state quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center.
DRAPER, Utah-Kason Janes posted 25 points and the No. 10 Kanab Cowboys stymied No. 7 Draper APA 71-60 in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Lucas Bacikalo’s 21 points led the Eagles in defeat.
MONROE, Utah-Ridge Tebbs led the way with 24 points and the No. 5 South Sevier Rams outlasted No. 12 Duchesne 72-66 in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs Saturday. Garett Fabrizio had 19 points for the Eagles in the loss. No. 5 South Sevier next draws No. 4 Rowland Hall Thursday at 2:30 pm in the 2A state quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center.
SALT LAKE CITY-Ozzie Smith’s 21 points led No. 4 Rowland Hall to a 64-61 win over North Summit Saturday in the second round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs. Trey Pace amassed 24 points and 15 rebounds in the loss for the Braves.
Region 20 Tournament
Championship Game
PANGUITCH, Utah-Kyler Bennett scored 14 points to lead the Panguitch Bobcats to the Region 20 championship with a 49-37 win over Piute. Gavin Morgan had a game high 19 points to lead the Thunderbirds in the loss.
3rd-4th Place Game
PANGUITCH, Utah-Miles Roberts led the way with 21 points and the Bryce Valley Mustangs bested Diamond Ranch 64-58 Saturday in the 3rd-4th place game at the Region 20 tournament at Panguitch High School.
5th-6th Place Game
PANGUITCH, Utah-The Valley Buffaloes held off Milford 45-40 to finish in 5th place at the Region 20 Tournament Saturday.
7th-8th Place Game
PANGUITCH, Utah-Reed Edwards netted 21 points and the Wayne Badgers smoked Water Canyon 58-37 Saturday at the Region 20 tournament at Panguitch High School to earn7th place. David Jeffs had 15 points in defeat for the Wildcats.
Girls Basketball
3A State Playoffs Second Round
BLUFFDALE, Utah-The No. 10 Union Cougars dismantled No. 7 Summit Academy 59-40 in the second round of the 3A state playoffs Saturday. The Cougars next face No. 2 seed Richfield Thursday at 5:50 pm in the 3A state quarterfinals at the Dee Events Center.
Region 20 Tournament
Championship Game
PANGUITCH, Utah-The top-seeded Piute Thunderbirds were crowned Region 20 Champions with a 43-37 win over Panguitch.
3rd-4th place game
PANGUITCH, Utah-The Wayne Lady Badgers finished in third place at the Region 20 Tournament with a 50-41 win over Escalante Saturday.
5th-6th place game
PANGUITCH, Utah-Kirsten Timpson posted 16 points and the Water Canyon Wildcats finished 5th at the Region 20 tournament with a 46-40 win over Valley Saturday at Panguitch High School. Janilyn Hoyt had 12 points in the loss for the Buffaloes.
7th-8th place game
PANGUITCH, Utah-JaLeana Tsosie scored 13 points and the Milford Tigers beat Bryce Valley 33-22 to place 7th at the Region 20 Tournament Saturday. Amanda Chynoweth scored 11 points in the loss for Bryce Valley.
