BYU Men’s Basketball Adds New Assistant Coach

PROVO, Utah-Per Thursday news, BYU men’s head basketball coach Mark Pope announced the hiring of Kahil Fennell as a new assistant with the Cougars’ program.

Fennell, a native of Oakland, Calif., comes to the BYU program after spending the past four seasons at Louisville. He spent last season as an assistant to former Cardinals head coach Chris Mack.

He had spent the previous three seasons on the Louisville staff as the program’s director of basketball operations.

During his time at Louisville, the Cardinals went 70-47 (.598) and made the NCAA Tournament in 2019 as a No. 7 seed in the East region.

Fennell also spent a season at Portland State under then-head coach Barrett Peery.

During his playing days, Fennell starred at Thousand Oaks High School of Thousand Oaks, Calif. He also played collegiately at USCAA Division II Penn State-Kensington and NCAA Division III University of the Redlands.
