PHILADELPHIA-Wednesday, BYU freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier was named as a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award by the Maxwell Football Club.

Bachmeier has led the Cougars to an 8-0 record and a No. 8 national ranking while completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,693 yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

Bachmeier has also run for nine scores on 4.3 yards per carry.

Bachmeier and his BYU teammates return to action Saturday at Lubbock, Texas against fellow Top 10 foe Texas Tech.
