(Salt Lake City, UT) — Transgender bathroom rights will be voted on in the Utah house. The bill is sponsored by GOP representative Kera Birkeland and prohibits anyone from using the opposite sex restroom in government owned buildings unless they have legally amended their sex on their birth certificate. This includes schools. The bill also will require any new government building to include more single person unisex restrooms to allow for more privacy. Opponents of the bill have given credit to Birkelad’s willingness to work with them but still take issue with offenders potentially being charged with voyeurism.
