(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Senate plans to seek a small cut in the state income tax rate. Senate Republicans announced yesterday that they will work to cut the tax rate from four-point-nine-five to four-point-eight-five-percent before the end of this year’s regular session. Some senators had expressed support for a deeper cut in the income tax rate before the session began. A bill to cut the tax rate is expected as early as tomorrow. Senate leaders say the governor’s proposal for a tax credit on food purchases for lower-income Utahns is still being discussed.
