(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Governor Spencer Cox has declared a statewide emergency because of extreme drought conditions. All 29 counties are now considered to be in severe drought with 22 of them experiencing extreme drought. The dry conditions follow Utah’s warmest winter and lowest snowpack levels on record. Governor Cox says the state is now relying heavily on reservoir storage which currently remains at 70-percent capacity from wetter years. He urged Utahns to conserve water by installing water smart landscaping and fixing any water leaks.
