(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Republican Party is seriously considering a move to set up its own debates for primary candidates. The independent Utah Debate Commission traditionally organizes debates for primary and general elections, selecting topics and moderators. Utah GOP Chair Carson Jorgensen tells he believes the party should have a stronger say in moderators and questions for the primary faceoffs, and says the party may break from the commission this year. The commission board has not responded to the ultimatum at this time.
