UT Governor Supports Appeal To Congressional Map

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Governor Spencer Cox is calling on the state’s legislature to appeal a judge’s ruling denying a congressional map drawn by Republican lawmakers. The map would’ve protected the state’s all-GOP congressional delegation. In her decision, District Judge Dianna Gibson called the map an “extreme partisan outlier” that gave Republicans an illegal advantage. In place of the GOP map, Gibson approved a map that creates a Democratic-leaning district covering Salt Lake City ahead of next year’s midterm elections. The previous map sliced Salt Lake City into districts that include rural areas dominated by Republicans.
