Two Hikers Found Dead In Kane County

(Kane County, UT) — Two Ohio men are dead after a flash flood in Kane County.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office says a body was found Sunday on the Arizona side of Paria Canyon, later identified as 65 year old Gary York.

Authorities learned yesterday that a second person was hiking with York and a search was started for him. The body of 72-year-old John Walter was located about 5:00 p.m. yesterday.

Further investigation shows flash flooding in the Buckskin Gulch during the time when the two men would have been hiking and it is believed they were caught by surprise and swept away by the rushing wall of water.

This is the same canyon where two other men from Florida were killed by flooding in March of this year.
