(Salt Lake City, UT) — The state wants to help veterans who may be having suicidal thoughts by providing them with free gun safes. The Department of Veterans and Military Affairs is getting ready to start a program this summer that would provide safes for handguns and long guns. A spokesperson for the department says final details are still being worked out, but the program could start as early as July. Information will be posted on the department’s website once the program launches. The National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is always available at 9-8-8.
