(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah lawmakers are sending an amended bill for a Fairpark area investment district to Gov. Spencer Cox for his signature. The so-called Major League Baseball bill passed the Utah Senate yesterday. The bill makes possible the construction of a MLB stadium in the advent of team expansion into Utah. Four Republicans voted no – Senators Balderee, Johnson, Kennedy and Harper. HB 562 suggests there could be potential tax hikes on telecommunications and energy use inside the district as well as a rental car tax hike statewide. The proposed law guarantees that “Utah” would be included in any future team’s name. The governor has until March 21 to sign or veto bills from this year’s session.
