South Sanpete School District terminating mask use

South Sanpete School District terminating mask use

Following a Coronavirus guideline update by Governor Spencer Cox last week, the South Sanpete School District has announced it will be terminating the use of masks in all schools as of Monday, May 24.   According to Superintendent Ralph Squire, masks will no longer be needed on buses, at activities, classrooms and all school functions.  The change will also be in effect for any summer school programs and activities; however, any individual who chooses to wear a mask is welcome to do so.

He also stated the district will follow HB 1007, passed in the Utah State Legislature on Wednesday, that state, “a school may not require an individual to wear a face-covering to attend or participate in in-person instruction, LEA-sponsored athletics, or another LEA-sponsored extracurricular activity, or in any other place on the campus of a school or school facility after the end of the 2020-2021 school year.”

He expressed appreciation for the dedication and efforts of the educators in the district and recognized the sacrifices that students and parents have made in following safety protocols that allowed schools to stay open for the school year.
