Snow College student honored at composition conference

When Snow College music student Kyle Alm of Sandy entered his composition into a Society of Composers Region 4 Student Conference, he never expected it to be selected for performance. But against all odds, his composition was chosen out of 200 entries. Alm and Snow professor Trent Hanna traveled to North Carolina to watch a performance of the composition last week. What made the choice even more incredible is the fact that Alm was competing against veteran composers and graduate students. According to Hanna, Alm’s professor and mentor, “being that Alm isn’t even a member of the region and priority of being considered is given to region members,” it was a real leap of faith for his composition to be submitted. The Society of Composers is a professional society dedicated to the promotion, performance, understanding and dissemination of new and contemporary music. Alm plans to graduate from Snow College with a degree in commercial music this spring.
