Sex Ed Bill Filed In the Utah State Legislature

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)-Per KSTU FOX-13 in Salt Lake City, Utah House Minority Leader Brian King unveiled a bill which he states “promotes the teaching of healthy relationships.”

Furthermore, it offers an option for expanded instruction concerning contraception and sexually transmitted diseases.

This legislation, House Bill 215, was filed in the Utah State Legislature Thursday and encourages discussion concerning consent, body autonomy and healthy relationships.

King, who recently spoke with FOX 13, says children should be taught these things as early as 2nd Grade in age-appropriate ways.

Presently, Utah teaches an abstinence-based sexual education curriculum. In 2016, King ran a “comprehensive sexual education” bill that failed to advance in the State Legislature.

Social conservatives opposed the measure and said they may also oppose this latest bill.

Maryann Christensen, the executive director of the Utah Eagle Forum, stated King shared a copy of his latest bill with her.

Christensen’s group has pushed for sex ed to be taught in Utah homes.
