Preliminary hearing date set for Mt. Pleasant man

After four months, a preliminary hearing date has finally been set for a Mt. Pleasant man charged with the murder of his fiancee. On March 31, police were called to a residence in Mt. Pleasant and found Kammy Edmunds, 34, deceased in the bathroom. Her fiancee, Anthony Christensen, said Edmunds died as the result of a drunk driving accident. However, upon investigation officers said the evidence didn’t support his claims, and he was arrested on April 1 and charged with 1st degree murder, obstruction of justice, and desecration of a body.

The lengthy delay since that time was primarily due to the prosecution and defense waiting for autopsy results from the State Medical Examiner and the volume of evidence collected. Christensen’s attorney said he has already spent five hours reviewing evidence with his client and expects to spend another five hours before the preliminary hearing date. Judge Marvin Bagley set the hearing for October 13, giving both sides time to finish going through the discovery before appearing before Judge Wallace Lee, who is assigned to the case.
