As the flu season continues in Utah, pharmacists are working hard to keep up with the demand of Tamiflu prescriptions.
According to Lenny Fitzgerald, the owner of Lenny’s Richfield Family Pharmacy in Richfield, all major wholesalers of Tamiflu are out of the antiviral drug.
“The Tamiflu is going off the shelves faster than they can produce it,” Fitzgerald says.
The medicine is only effective if it’s taken in the first two days of showing symptoms.
Fitzgerald adds that he’s working with other local pharmacies to make sure those who need it, can get it.
“Today, I’ve seen more prescriptions than I have in stock, and so I’m going to try and stock up before it’s gone again.”
State health officials are reporting that over 800 Utahans have been hospitalized with the flu in recent weeks.
