Panguitch man gets probation after mother’s body found in coal bin

A Panguitch man has been sentenced to two years of probation after he buried his 90-year-old mother’s body in a coal bin in her home after she died.

Pete Marker pleaded guilty in his initial court appearance in the case on Thursday.

A sentence of up to five years in prison was suspended in lieu of two years probation, according to court documents.

Marker was was arrested on Jan. 10 after police learned he had told a family member of his mother’s death and that he had “taken care of the body.”

He was originally charged with a third-degree felony of desecration of a human body and a class B misdemeanor charge of failure to report finding a human body.
