Panguitch Lake Reopens For Fishing After Dam Repairs Made

(Panguitch, UT) — Utah wildlife officials are allowing anglers back to Panguitch Lake, after temporarily closing the reservoir when cracks were discovered at the dam this month. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources lifted its emergency fishing closure at the reservoir yesterday. The emergency closure was initiated on April 10th after cracks were found within the top two to five feet of the Panguitch Lake dam. The fishing restoration comes a little more than a week after Panguitch city officials lifted an evacuation notice as crews built a buttress across the damaged area. A 17-mile stretch of state Route 143, from Panguitch to Panguitch Lake, reopened on April 12th. The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is still asking people to refrain from going near some marked areas at the dam.
