New Bill Would Allow Parents To Sue Schools, Teacher Over Infringed Rights

(Salt Lake City, UT) – New legislation could give Utah parents an avenue to sue school districts or teachers over any perceived infringement of their parental rights. SB 157 from Republican State Senator John Johnson lists areas where parents could assert their rights over their child’s education, including teacher training, courses, curriculum, classroom materials and test books. The Utah Education Association is opposing the bill, and accused Johnson and other lawmakers of encouraging needless controversy.
