(Salt Lake City, UT) — Lawmakers took the first step Tuesday toward ending the state portion of the sales tax on food. The House Revenue and Taxation unanimously endorsed House Bill 101, sending the measure to the full House of Representatives for a vote. West Valley Republican Representative Judy Weeks Rohner’s bill would remove the sales tax on food, beginning in 2025. Legislative leaders say getting rid of the food sales tax would give Utahns about 200-million dollars in tax relief.
