(Salt Lake City, UT) — Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland is in the hospital. A statement released by the church on Thursday said the St. George native is hospitalized “for observation and treatment of ongoing health complications.” Holland was temporarily excused from church responsibilities and assignments in April for medical treatments. The church announced in June that he was gradually returning to assignments. His wife Patricia Holland died on July 20th and the couple’s son, General Authority Elder Matthew Holland, read a tribute written by his father at the funeral last Friday. According to the church statement, Jeffrey Holland was not able to speak due to “the circumstances of his own health and emotions.” The 82-year-old Holland is fifth in seniority in church leadership.
