(Cedar City, UT) — Death row inmate Taberon Honie is asking the governor of Utah to delay his execution. Honie’s legal team wrote to Spencer Cox last week asking to put off the execution to make sure it is done safely, claiming the process has been rushed and could end in a dangerous outcome. This comes after a judge granted the state’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by his lawyers, which challenged Utah’s execution protocols, claiming the drugs used in the lethal injection could cause a painful, botched execution. Honie was sentenced to death for the 1998 murder of Claudia Benn in Cedar City, and his execution date is set for Thursday.
