(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Spencer Cox says a bill he’s signing will not exclude undocumented children from participating in extra-curricular activities. HB-209 will require students to provide certain identification to participate in sports and other extra-curricular activities in public and private schools. Cox said he waited a day to sign the bill after hearing concerns the new law would deny opportunities for some students. The bill’s sponsor, Representative Jordan Teuscher, told the Governor the intent of the bill is to increase access to sports and other activities. Cox added he would “call a special session to…change the bill” if any students are excluded.
