Gov. Cox Vows To Veto Proposed School Voucher Bill

(Salt Lake City, UT) – Governor Spencer Cox plans to veto legislation that would create a school voucher system in Utah schools. During his monthly news conference, Governor Cox said he does support the use of school vouchers that would allow families to direct the public funds for their children to private schools. However, the governor says his first focus is on increasing pay for Utah teachers, saying teachers should be making a starting salary of 60-thousand dollars a year before any voucher system is implemented. The average starting salary for teachers in Utah is currently 43-thousand dollars.
