GOP Denies Air Quality Board Nominee

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Republican legislators voted Tuesday against Governor Cox’s nomination of a Democratic City Council member to the Utah Air Quality Board. Three of the committee’s four Republican members voted no on the appointment of Suzanne Harrison, a physician and former state lawmaker, resulting in a 3-3 tie. While a member of the legislature, Harrison had butted heads with GOP members over environmental policy matters. This is the first time a Utah Senate committee has failed to support a Governor’s nomination to the Air Quality Board, where two spots remain unfilled.
