The Division of Wildlife Resources will not be holding one of Utah’s most popular fishing events this year.
The Fish Lake Perch Tournament, which was scheduled to begin on Feb 24, has been canceled because of unsafe ice conditions.
Officials are predicting that the ice thickness won’t be improving in the next few weeks enough to hold the large event which has about 2,000 people each year.
Individual groups can still find some safe spots on the lake and fishers can still enter for a chance to win a prize.
DWR biologists have placed tags on 1,000 yellow perch in the lake. The fish with the tags, caught between Feb. 3 and Aug. 31, can be taken to the Fish Lake Resort store or the Bowery Haven Resort for a chance to win a firearm donated by Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife.
The prize drawing will be held on Sept. 1.
