Celeste Maloy has been chosen as the Utah Republican Party’s nominee for the 2nd Congressional District’s special election to replace retiring Rep. Chris Stewart. Delegates voted for Maloy on Saturday with her beating out former Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes in the final round after receiving a final endorsement from Jordan Hess after he was eliminated. Maloy served as chief legal counsel in Stewart’s Washington, D.C., office before resigning to run. She also received endorsements from Stewart and former Congressman Rob Bishop. The special election to fill Stewart’s seat will be held Sept. 5, and the special general election will be held Nov. 21.
