Cedar City Man Likely To Spend Decades In Jail For Murder

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Cedar City man could spend the rest of his life behind bars for a murder he committed near the NBA All-Star weekend in 1993. Yesterday, James Wallace Peterson the Third got a sentence of five years to life. The 63-year-old says he doesn’t remember killing Theresa Morlock in Salt Lake City, but he admits that the evidence is undeniable. She was a sex worker who died by asphyxiation. Peterson was tracked down using DNA. He pleaded guilty in July. The sentence of five years to life is based on sentencing laws from 1993. Peterson is likely to stay locked up for 20 years.
