(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Utah House committee is shutting down the idea of banning cell phones and smartwatches in classrooms. The measure, brought forth by Layton Republican Trevor Lee, was rejected this week. It called for keeping those devices out of the hands of students if teachers thought they were a distraction. Lee’s original draft called for a statewide ban. Opponents of the bill thought there wasn’t a way to enforce the proposal.
