SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah lawmaker wants residents to be able to pass down their social media and email accounts to relatives as easily as they do their belongings after they die.
Lawmakers are expected to consider the plan during a judiciary committee meeting Thursday afternoon.
Utah considered a similar proposal last year. Despite unanimous support in the House of Representatives, lawmakers ran out of time before they were able to vote on it in the Senate.
If approved, Utah would join more than a dozen other states that have enacted similar proposals.
Proposal sponsor Republican Rep. Lowry Snow of St. George says digital property has become very valuable, so it should be protected just like physical property.
