4.5 Magnitude Earthquake Impacts Southern Utah Yesterday

(Cedar City, UT) — Hundreds of people say they felt a magnitude 4.5 earthquake that shook southern Utah late yesterday. University of Utah Seismograph Stations reported that the earthquake hit at about 11:29 p.m. The shock’s epicenter was located 15.3 miles south of Brian Head or about 19 miles southeast of Cedar City. Approximately two-thousand people living along the I-15 corridor from near Beaver to north of Las Vegas, Nevada have checked in that they felt the quake. Though an earthquake of this strength is usually not destructive, the Utah Division of Emergency Management went on social media to remind residents to drop, cover and hold on if an earthquake hits. They are asking people to fill out a survey form on the U.S. Geological Survey website.
