Rise In Thefts Involving Scrap Metal, Metal Wire and More Reported In Millard County

Recently, Millard county has been affected by a rash of thefts involving scrap metal, copper wire, automobile catalytic converters and other items. Current pricing of certain metals and materials has increased in the scrap and recycle industry which often results in the increase of theft of these items. According to a post to the Millard Sheriff’s Facebook page, they “feel that involving our communities in the deterrence of crime will decrease the number of potential victims.”

In the post a few options were suggested to help reduce the number of thefts. First, trail cameras and surveillance systems which “can be very beneficial in solving crimes” and have been shown to benefit officers with more leads and arrests. Along with producing more leads, visible cameras have also been shown to deter criminals.

The second item discussed was lighting as a large number of these types of crimes occur in the night. In the post it was stated that “lighting can be a very beneficial source to help deter potential criminals.”
