UVU Men’s Basketball’s Fardaws Aimaq/USU’s Neemias Queta Named To Prestigious Defensive Team

BOSTON-Monday, Utah Valley men’s basketball redshirt sophomore center Fardaws Aimaq was named to the 2020-21 Lefty Driesell Defensive All-American Team and a finalist for the Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year Award. Aimaq was joined on this team by Utah State junior center Neemias Queta.

These awards are named in honor of Lefty Driesell, who posted a record of 786-394 (.666) as the head coach at Davidson (1960-1969), Maryland (1969-1986), James Madison (1988-1997) and Georgia State (1997-2003).

Aimaq, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, led the nation in rebounds per game (15), total rebounds (330) and defensive rebounds per game (10.68).

Aimaq ranks nationally with 14 double-doubles as he also averaged 13.9 points per game for the 11-11 (9-4 in WAC play) Wolverines.

Queta, a native of Barreiro, Portugal, averages 15 points and 10 rebounds per season for the 20-8 (15-4 in Mountain West Conference play) Aggies. Utah State is the No. 11 seed in the South region and will face No. 6 Texas Tech Friday at the NCAA Tournament.
