SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham named Chad Bumphis as the program’s new wide receivers coach.
Bumphis is a former second-team all-SEC receiver at Mississippi State (2012). He starred for the Bulldogs from 2009-2012, amassing 159 receptions for 2,270 yards and 25 net touchdowns, including 24 scoring receptions.
The 24 scoring receptions represent a school record at Mississippi State, while his 2,270 receiving yards are second in school history and his 159 grabs are third in school annals.
Bumphis later appeared on the practice squad rosters of the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars before ending his professional career on the practice squad for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Bumphis has previously been with the Utes program as in 2018, he served as a graduate assistant on a squad that won the Pac-12 South title.
Bumphis has also served as a an assitant at NCAA Division III Iowa Wesleyan (receivers, 2016), NCAA FBS Buffalo (graduate assistant, 2017) and NCAA FCS Austin Peay (2019/2020).
Before accepting this position at Utah, Bumphis had been hired by NCAA FBS Central Michigan this past February.
Current Utes receivers who have been mentored by Bumphis previously include seniors Britain Covey, Solomon Enis and Dylan Slavens and junior Jaylen Dixon.
