LISBON VALLEY, Utah (AP) — A mining company is proposing a new form of copper mining in southern Utah, but people living nearby are concerned. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that rancher Mike Wilcox worries it could affect the wells that provide water for his cattle and family. The Lisbon Valley Mining Company has offered to cover the expensive job of digging a new well, but only if he signs over the rights to his current well, and he worries that he could be left without a viable water source. Company president George Shaw says they don’t believe the new process will have wide-ranging effects on the water. The Utah Division of Water Quality will hold a hearing on Tuesday.
