SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The southern Utah ski resort town of Brian Head is holding a more subdued July Fourth celebration four days after residents were allowed to return when evacuations for a wildfire were lifted.
Brian Head Resort spokesman Mark Wilder said several thousand people turned out Tuesday for the resort’s annual July 4 festival, featuring music, food, crafts and more.
Town manager Bret Howser says crowds are smaller than usual for July 4, a major holiday in the town.
Howser says Brian Head canceled its fireworks display this year because the area is still too dry and ripe for fires.
About 700 people fled Brian Head on June 17 after a man burning a pile of weeds started the wildfire. It went on to burn at least 13 homes in the area.
Officials allowed residents to return Friday.
